Minister for Youth Services, Sports and Skill Development Kollu Ravindra on Friday said that the State government will soon establish a logistics university in Kakinada and earmarked ₹350 crore for the project.
Speaking at the inaugural of the two-day UGC-sponsored national seminar on ‘Logistic and Supply Chain Management’ at KBN College here, he said the Chief Minister was keen on establishing the university as the future depended on logistics.
“The university will take care of the skill development programmes thus creating job opportunities to the youth. The State government has allotted land in Kakinada and the process of establishing the university has begun.”
He suggested universities and colleges to start courses in logistic and supply chain management as the State government was giving top priority to these new courses with employment potential.
He further said that Vijayawada has become a logistical hub and it would create jobs to those who had skills and talent.
“The State government is aiming improve rail, road, waterway and air connectivity throughout the State giving scope for the development of logistics management . Andhra Pradesh has 980km length of sea coastal and there is potential to develop ports,” he added.
International airports
Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati airports are being developed as premier international airports. “Vijayawada airport will soon operate international flights. With the logistic hub flourishing warehousing and assembling units would provide jobs to the youth,” he pointed out.
He said that State government was providing skill development training to unemployed youth through the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC).
