Lodging police complaint to be made online in WG

January 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:53 am IST - ELURU:

The citizens now do not need to go all the way to police stations to lodge a complaint, as the West Godavari district police is all set to launch ‘e-police complaint’ services.

The initiative in the offing aims at relieving people of the hardship of approaching police stations, the agonizing wait to get their complaints registered. “We are fine-tuning the project and it is likely to take off in a week or two,” says Superintendent of Police K. Raghuram Reddy.

As part of the initiative, a link will be provided on the website of the district police, enabling people to log in and post their complaint online which can be directly accessed by the SP. Instantly, an e-copy of the complaint will reach the SHO concerned.

The SP said that people willing to lodge complaints would be required to submit the data such as name of the complainant, mobile number and identity proof details on the website. “Insistence on identity proof is to discourage lodging of fictitious complaints,” Mr. Raghuram Reddy said.

The copies of the First Information Reports (FIRs) will be made available on the public domain after the registration of complaints. Registration of FIR has become a source for rampant corruption within the department and lack of follow-up action by the SHOs on the complaints is forcing people to do the rounds of the offices of police higher-ups.
