Forest officials on Thursday evening captured a leopard, which attacked a farmer in his fields at Nadimpalle village of Shantipuram mandal of Kuppam circle, after tranquillising it and using nets.

The leopard attacked Parthasaradhi, a young farmer, when he was working in his fields in the early hours of Thursday, injuring him on his neck and shoulder.

The injured farmer was admitted to PES Medical College Hospital at Kuppam and was declared safe.

The forest officials deployed personnel from Tirupati Wildlife Division and tranquillised the big cat when it was hiding in the bushes, after its advance was hampered by a barbed wire fence. Later, it was captured with the help of nets. The officials immediately shifted it to SV Zoological Park in Tirupati.

It might be released back into the forests based on its health condition.

It is believed that the animal strayed into the fields from the thickets of Karnataka border, 5 km away from the fields.
