Legislature website to go online soon

November 18, 2011 11:57 am | Updated 11:57 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The common man will have an opportunity to know the assets and liabilities of MLAs and MLCs once the official website of the Andhra Pradesh Legislature is launched in January next.

As part of AP Legislature automation project undertaken by Speaker Nadendla Manohar, the website, which is still under construction, would be a virtual goldmine of information. By logging on to www.aplegislature.org, viewers can access information about the Legislative Assembly and the Council.

“It will be transparent, accountable, citizen friendly and virtual interactive website,” said Mr. Manohar. Talking to The Hindu on Thursday, the Speaker said: “The new website will be unique. “We will upload the statement of assets and liabilities submitted by the members after their election and remind them to update the information regularly,” he said.

Flagship schemes

As for its usefulness to the MLAs, they can access the latest data on the six flagships schemes being implemented in the State. “Constituency-wise weekly updates of the NREGS, pensions, housing, ration cards, Arogyasri and scholarships will be available for the legislators. All that the MLA has to do is to use his Samsung Tablet to download the information and inform his constituents,” Mr. Manohar said. Another unique feature is the GIS mapping of each constituency, where in the legislator is able to locate the schools, primary health centres, anganwadi centres besides the fair price shops.

e-Petitions

“The e-Petition section in the portal will help the common man to send their grievances. Once the complaint is acknowledged, the MLA concerned and department will be asked to redress it in fixed time frame,” he pointed out.

Those interested in the long history of the legislature could get to view the digitised proceedings from 1952. “Visual proceedings from 1996 will be available for viewing,” the Speaker said adding that live webcast would commence when the House is in session. There would be virtual tour of the Assembly also, the Speaker noted.

Once the official website is fully functional, individual websites for the members is being planned, the Speaker said.
