In the wake of unprecedented Left wing extremism activities and their presence felt in Chattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh border with Odisha, special concentration will put on East Godavari and Visakhapatnam districts to curb these activities in coming months, said North Coastal Region Inspector General of Police Ch.D. Tirumala Rao.
Speaking to newsmen at a press conference at Machilipatnam on Thursday, Mr. Tirumala Rao clarified that there was no plan to deploy additional battalions in any Coastal Andhra districts including Visakhapatnam, a hotbed of Maoists’ activity as it has common border and connectivity with two states – Odisha and Chattisgarh.
Responding to a question on AP Police Department’s proposal for integrated coastal security measures involving local fisherfolk community along the coastline, Mr. Tirumala Rao said that there was no such proposal under consideration. Necessary coastal security issues would be discussed with officials in North Andhra districts soon, he added.

“Organised and factionist criminal activities in places like Vijayawada and Avanigadda have almost gone into oblivion, tackling cyber crime and repeated fraud cases involving by fly-by-night operators are few challenges before the department,” said Mr. Tirumala Rao.
Accompanied by Eluru Range Deputy Inspector General of Police Vikram Singh Mann, he stressed on the need for adopting newer technology to curb cyber crime. Highlighting installation of CC cameras at a few strategic places like Machilipatnam Bus Terminus, as a part of security measures, Mr. Tirumala Rao said that more public places in identified towns would be covered with CC Camera surveillance in Coastal districts. Krishna District Superintendent of Police J. Prabhakara Rao and other senior officials were also present.
