Kudos to Indian forces

May 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:02 am IST

Responding to the directions of the Indian Government, the Indian armed forces planned relief work in Nepal within minutes of the earthquake hitting the Himalayan nation. The Indian armed forces have put up their best and everyone has to salute the services provided by the Indian Army, NDRF, and health teams. Thanks to the Indian Government for planning and executing it appreciably well. We also pray that Nepal should come to its normal state at the earliest and help from all quarters come in pouring in their moment of disaster.

Telugu self-respect

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has made more trips to New Delhi with his wishlist than any other BJP or non-BJP Chief Minister in the last 10 months.

The Telugu Desam party was formed on the basic concept of self-respect of Telugus, which appears to have been given a go by when the Chief Minister seeks assistance for different schemes when he meets Prime Minister and other members of the Union Cabinet.

Keep promises

Political parties promise to do a lot for the common man in their manifestos and once they come to power people are left hoping that something would be done for them. Prices are rising hitting everyone hard. Youth are in anticipation of employment opportunities. Farmers are left to suffer the vagaries of the climate. The political parties have to work hard and deliver their promises.

Absolute majority

The absence of a significant opposition in the State legislature has emboldened the Telugu Desam Government to take anti-people decisions such as forcing farmers to part with fertile lands for setting up the new state capital. The inability of the Congress to deliver has seen the electorate vote them out. The people expect pro-poor policies from the new government.

Unfortunately the new governments at the Centre and the State appear pro-corporate and anti-people.

Why has the NDA Government not shown same interest in pushing through important pending laws like the Women’s Reservation Bill rather than bring out Ordinances on subjects such as land acquisition which are anti-people?

Poor road condition

The area surrounding the Railway Bridge on the Chodavaram Road in Anakapalle is dirty and ill maintained.

People use the area for defecation making it difficult to pass by the place.

Officials express helplessness and say it requires public and political intervention to get the people to stop the habit.
