At a time when Krishna University (KRU) is waiting to mobilise financial resources to realise its dream of having own campus, the State government has promised to extend a financial assistance of Rs. 40 crore for developing the university’s infrastructure. It is learnt that the government has taken a decision to extend financial assistance to universities in the State by offering special packages, giving a fillip to higher educational institutions.

Though the university was established in 2008, it continues to operate in National College buildings due to lack of permanent campus.

“The government has promised to release a package of above Rs. 40 crore for our university. It’s a major contribution to speed up the Rs. 80-crore project of constructing own buildings,” university Vice-Chancellor S. Ramakrishna Rao told The Hindu .

The university has already signed a MoU with the Central Public Works Department for execution of the project that would come up on the university’s own site spread over 102 acres at Rudravaram on the outskirts of Machilipatnam.

According to the agreement, administrative buildings would be completed in the first phase. “We are in touch with government authorities in order to get more financial support,” Mr. Ramakrishna Rao said. Being close to new capital of Amaravati, the institution is sure to play a crucial role in the field of higher education in future.
