Calling upon all BC castes to come under one umbrella and fight for reservation in politics, national president of the BC Sankshema Sangham and TDP MLA from Telangana R. Krishnaiah on Sunday said only unity could give due recognition to the BCs.

Addressing the BC Garjana here, Mr. Krishnaiah said BCs deserved allocation of at least 50% seats in Parliament. There was an immediate need to bring pressure on all political parties to allocate a major chunk of the seats to the BCs.

“Of the 2,600 BC castes in the country, none from 2,505 castes has entered Parliament till date. About 130 BC castes haven’t entered the State Assembly,” he said, adding that the BCs were being given nominated posts.

“This is not fair, and the reason behind this injustice is lack of unit among the BCs. We should consider the BC factor and not the caste. Only unity could make us draw the attention of the political parties,” he said.

Mr. Krishnaiah said unless the share of BCs in Parliament and State Assemblies increased, their condition at the ground level would not improve.

Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council Reddi Subrahmanyam and MLC Adireddi Appa Rao were present.
