Andhra Pradesh will complain to the Krishna River Water Disputes Tribunal against Karnataka over the excess utilisation of Krishna water by the upper riparian State in violation of the inter-State agreement.

Andhra Pradesh Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah told reporters in Hyderabad on Thursday that Karnataka has been using 28 tmc ft of Krishna water over and above the quantity allocated to it.

“They are using water for industrial needs even as we, as the lower riparian State, have been deprived of our rightful share of water. This is highly objectionable and we shall write to Karnataka on this,” the Minister said.

Incidentally, Andhra Pradesh has already been fighting against Karnataka in the tribunal over the height of Almatti dam.
