Krishna Pushkaram to be held on grand scale

The State government is gearing up to conduct Krishna Pushkaram from August 12 to 23 on a grant scale, Minister for Agriculture Prathipati Pulla Rao said here on Monday.

“This is the first big religious event happening in the capital region, and the government is committed to ensuring that the event remains etched in the memory of people,” Mr. Rao said here.

Outlining the priorities, the Minister said Irrigation, Endowments, Roads and Buildings, Medical and Health and Panchayat Raj departments would play a major role during the preparatory period.

The Irrigation and Endowment departments have estimated that as many as 96 bathing ghats would be required on the banks of the Krishna, at a cost of Rs. 63.18 crore.

Compensation

Later, reviewing drinking water crisis in the district, Mr. Rao said the government would release water from Nagarjuna Sagar on February 25 and directed the Panchayat Raj Department to ensure that all tanks were filled by March 10. The Minister also said that decks had been cleared for the construction of Venugopala Swamy temple by ISKON at Chengizkhanpet near Chilakaluripet.

He added that the government had alreary cleared proposals to pay compensation to the tune of Rs. 2.75 lakh to each of the 124 families whose properties had been acquired for the project.
