Lord Sri Kondandarama rode the celestial carriers, the Sun and the Moon, around four mada streets on Thursday, as part of the annual brahmotsavams under way in the city.

Devotees thronged to witness the deity being taken out on the majestic ‘Suryaprabha Vahanam’, which has a dazzling gold-coloured halo resembling the sun. According to mythology, sun is believed to be the source of life and energy besides being remover of illness. This is one of the reasons why devotees worship the Lord riding the celestial carrier.

In the evening, ‘Unjal Seva’ was performed and the deity was taken on ‘Chandraprabha Vahanam’, a carrier with a silver halo resembling the moon.

Meanwhile, a ‘golden umbrella’, which would be adorned on the top of the chariot during ‘Radhotsavam’, was offered by members of ‘Pantulugari’ lineage as per the age-old practice.

TTD’s Deputy Executive Officer Harindranath, Assistant Executive Officer Prasad Murthy Raju, Executive Engineer Jagadeeswara Reddy, Garden Superintendent Srinivas, Temple Inspector Murali Krishna and others took part.
