KMC election: all set for counting of votes today

Result likely before noon, says Collector

Arrangements are in place for counting of the votes polled in the Kakinada Municipal Corporation election and the process will begin at Rangaraya Medical College at 8 a.m. on Friday. The result is likely to be out by 11.30 a.m.

The election was conducted for 48 out of 50 divisions of the KMC in 196 polling stations in the city on Tuesday last. The sealed units of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were stored on the medical college premises.

“We are going to conduct randomisation in the presence of the election observer at 5 a.m. and the strongroom will be opened in the presence of the representatives of all political parties at 7 a.m.,” Collector and Election Officer Kartikeya Misra told reporters here on Thursday.

As many as 14 tables were arranged for the purpose. One returning officer, counting supervisor, assistant counting supervisor and counting assistant each would be allocated to all the 14 tables. Seating was arranged at the counting tables for the agents of the political parties.

Security

“The counting process is expected to be completed by 11.30 a.m. or 12 noon,” Mr. Misra said, calling upon the contesting candidates and the political parties to extend their support.

Over 250 police personnel would guard the venue during the counting of votes. As many as five Deputy Superintendents of Police, 12 inspectors, 30 sub-inspectors and 200 constables would be part of the security set-up. As a precautionary measure, the police took into custody 180 history-sheeters. Liquor shops in the city limits would remain closed till Friday evening.
