Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Tuesday urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take steps for the deletion of Clause 14 (F) of Presidential Order of 1975 that makes Hyderabad a free zone for employment.

Mr. Reddy called the Prime Minister this afternoon to make the request, the Chief Minister’s Office said in a release.

The issue is likely to be taken up in the meeting of Union Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) this evening and a decision is expected, it said.

Telangana supporters say that the Andhra Pradesh capital should be part of other Telangana districts and the city should not be a free zone.

The students unions in Telangana and political leaders, cutting across party lines, have been demanding the deletion of Clause 14 (F).

The Telangana students groups have called for a shutdown in the region on Wednesday in support of the demand. TRS said in a release that its president K Chandrasekhar Rao appealed to the people to make the bandh a ‘success’.
