Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, who rebelled against the Congress and quit from his posts as Chief Minister and MLA, is likely to hold a conclave of his supporters in the next couple of days to fine tune his strategies in the coming days. Disclose
Mr. Kiran Reddy who left the Chief Minister’s residence and camp office, confined himself to his residence at Banjara Hills on Thursday and is reportedly exploring different options including floating a new political party, before him. Sources in Mr. Kiran Reddy’s camp told The Hindu that he was weighing the pros and cons of the new party as he was sceptical about the exact number of leaders who would remain with him in the longer term.
The dwindling support base since the bifurcation Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha, was one main reason that was being factored in by his close aides before taking concrete steps in that direction. This apart, reports that some senior members especially those from the Rayalaseema region have been engaged in talks with the TDP and YSR Congress leaders for switching loyalty at an appropriate time had made him doubly cautious about the approach.
Several of his supporters are, however, in favour of floating a new political party as they feel the time is ripe for an outfit that could take forward the cause of Telugu unity forward. These leaders are countering the argument from a section of loyalists that a new party for the cause of Telugu unity would be of little use after the bifurcation process is through.
“In fact, this is the right time for an outfit that can stand for the people’s cause rather than political considerations. The slogan of Telugu unity has become even more relevant given the haste with which the Central Government has gone ahead with the bifurcation process without addressing the concerns of Seemandhra region,” a Minister who quit his post along with Mr. Kiran Reddy on Wednesday said.
