The motley crowd cheered loudly when he played his martyr’s card. “I quit the Chief Minister’s post for the sake of united Andhra Pradesh. I am not interested in power, only the interests of the Telugu people are paramount to me,” said N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, former Chief Minister and president of Jai Samaikyandhra Party (JSP).

A group of party workers and supporters converged at Krishna Nagar on Thursday afternoon when Mr. Reddy kicked off his road show in the city to garner support for JSP candidates. The meeting close to Yousufguda check-post had supporters flocking to his vehicle and listening to his speech in rapt attention and cheering whenever he mentioned separate Telangana.

“I was born in Hyderabad, studied in Hyderabad and played cricket for Hyderabad. Because of my love and concern for the city, I am saying repeatedly that bifurcation is going to cause irreparable damage to Hyderabad,” he said.

Mr. Reddy was vocal when he decried the division and did not mince words when he said that the Congress along with BJP, TDP, YSRC and TRS committed a major blunder. “Whose interests the move is going to serve? Both sides will suffer badly,” he lamented, as his followers shouted slogans in support of him.

From Krishna Nagar, Mr. Reddy’s convoy comprising several bike-riding youngsters, few cars and police escorts, wend its way through Srinagar Colony, Jubilee Hills and moved to Neredmet X road.
