Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has decided to undertake another round of ‘Rachabanda,’ the mass contact programme, soon after the panchayat elections to fulfil the promises he made during earlier visits across the State.
Mr. Reddy, who chaired the Congress Legislature Party executive meeting on Monday, asked party leaders to prepare for the municipal elections next month. He said the local MLAs would be made responsible for the victory of candidates backed by the party. Though, the elections would be held on non-party basis, the Congress leadership is not taking any chance.
Pressing issues
The CLP executive members wanted the government to look into issues like non-payment of pensions, delay in releasing instalments for the housing schemes, ration cards and house sites. Mr. Reddy, in response to the plea, said he would undertake one more round of `Rachabanda’ immediately after the panchayat elections.
“We will have 15 days time after the panchayat elections and I plan to tour the State,” he told the Congress leaders. He wanted the party leaders to ensure that there was proper coordination among partymen.
He asked the leaders to take the initiative and see that candidates were selected in an amicably manner without creating problems. He suggested that the efforts should be made to convince the aspirants if there were more than one candidate.
Gesture to flood-hit
Earlier, the Congress legislators decided to donate one month’s basic pay to the Uttarakhand flood victims. A sum of Rs. 24 lakh would be collected through the donation and sent to the Uttarakhand government. The meeting offered condolences to the families of those, who died in the collapse of Hotel City Light here.
