Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy returned to the city on Friday night after holding meetings with UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and other senior Congress leaders.
The Chief Minister was closeted with the AICC president Sonia Gandhi for an hour before leaving the Capital. Ms. Gandhi’s political secretary Ahmed Patel and party’s State affairs in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad were also present during the interaction.
Though what transpired in the meeting was unknown, the deliberations focussed on the proposed changes in the State Cabinet following the resignation of Ministers Dharmana Prasada Rao and Sabitha Indra Reddy recently. Mr. Reddy reportedly sought a free hand in revamping his Council of Ministers, including dismissing some and adding some new faces, to gear the party and the government for the general elections scheduled next year.
He is learnt to have sought the party’s guidance in filling nominated posts to boost the morale of the cadre in the run up to the general elections. Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy is understood to have impressed upon the party leadership the need to ensure selection of right candidates for the ensuing elections as the party continued to be in an advantageous position after the launch of various welfare schemes covering all sections.
