Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has deferred his visit to Medak district for launching various schemes as part of Rachabanda, the mass contact programme.
He was scheduled to visit Veltur village and Sadashivapet mandal under the Sangareddy constituency in Medak district following a representation by Congress MLA T. Jayaprakash Reddy to inaugurate works in his constituency even as several party leaders opposed the visit.
Mr. Kiran Reddy’s decision to defer his visit came after his Cabinet colleagues J. Geetha Reddy and Sunita Lakshma Reddy met him for an hour this morning and requested him to postpone his programme. They expressed their inability to attend as they had to participate in a meeting at Nirmal to thank Congress president Sonia Gandhi for conceding the demand for separate Telangana.
The decision comes in the backdrop of Deputy Chief Minister C. Damodar Rajanarsimha and other Telangana Ministers opposing the Chief Minister’s visit to Telangana region as he was vociferously resisting bifurcation of the State.
While Mr. Damodar asked district leaders to boycott the Chief Minister’s visit, the TRS gave a call for district bandh.
Mr. Jayaprakash Reddy, on his part, asserted that the the fresh dates for the Chief Minister’s visit would be communicated shortly. Meanwhile, Government Chief Whip Gandra Venkataramana Reddy said he would not welcome the Chief Minister’s visit as there was a sort of feeling among the people that he was opposed to separate Telangana State.
