Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday called on AICC leaders to explain the steps taken by his government to partially roll back the power tariff for consumers.
Facing the flak from the opposition parties and within the party, Mr. Reddy is said to have explained in detail the damage control exercise undertaken by his government to AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad. During his meeting with Mr. Azad, the Chief Minister, it is understood, also expressed dissatisfaction at some senior leaders including a couple of Ministers openly criticising the power tariff hike.
He is said to have pointed out that such issues could have been discussed within party forum or brought to the notice of the seniors.
He charged that such actions of these leaders were causing damage to the party.
Mr. Reddy, who was in New Delhi to attend the conference of Chief Ministers and Chief Justices of High Court, also called on AICC treasurer Motilal Vora and Union Power Minister M. Veerappa Moily.
Apprises Azad
At the meeting with Mr. Azad, the Chief Minister is believed to have discussed the latest political situation in wake of the opposition agitation against the tariff hike.
He is said to have explained the three-month long programme launched by the government to highlight the welfare programmes including the SC/ST Sub Plan. He made a plea to the Union Power Minister to allot more power to tide over the severe power cuts. Later, he met AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh, who returned from a tour of Assam.
