Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana on Friday raised the contentious Telangana statehood issue at a meeting convened by party vice-president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi.
The meeting of the PCC president and Congress Legislature Party leaders saw the two State leaders urging the Centre to take an early decision on the statehood issue. Sources said during their brief speech at the meeting, they wanted the Centre to take a quick decision to end the uncertainty prevailing in the State.
The two leaders also pointed out that once a decision either in favour or against Telangana was taken, the party could gear up to face the consequences. They are understood to have said that the Congress party had not become as weak as it was being made out to be. Referring to the impressive performance during the cooperative polls, they hoped that there was scope to improve results in future. The two leaders are expected to attend the second-day’s meeting, when Mr. Rahul Gandhi will address the gathering. He is expected to give them directions on the general elections.
