Kin of Volvo bus accident victims to get Rs.1 lakh each

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Thursday sanctioned Rs.1 lakh each to the kin of those killed in Volvo bus accident near Palem in Mahabubnagar district on October 30.

Forty-four passengers were charred to death when the bus they were travelling from Bangalore to Hyderabad went up in flames after it hit the wall of a culvert in the early hours.

The State government had constituted a committee of senior IAS officers to probe the cause of the bus mishap and also to suggest measures to prevent such accidents in future.

The Chief Minister also ordered a CB CID enquiry into the accident.

Protest by kin

PTI adds: The kin of the victims had staged a protest outside Transport Minister Botcha Satyanarayana’s residence last week seeking payment of compensation and action against the private bus operator.

The State government had all along maintained that the kin would get insurance payment.
