Kerala reaffirms commitment

Carrying gas from existing network to northern districts

April 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:57 am IST - KOCHI:

The Kerala government has reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating the laying of the pipeline to carry natural gas from the existing network in Ernakulam to northern districts of the State. This was conveyed at a meeting of the officials concerned held here recently. The work may take a few more months to resume. GAIL India, which had been entrusted with the task, would need to invite fresh bids to get the work done and hence the delay, sources said.

Earlier, GAIL India had resorted to cancellation of contracts where land could not be made available on various stretches along the route. There was vehement opposition to the project from landowners, mostly in districts such as Malappuram and Kozhikode, resulting in the cancellation of the work. The pipelines, once laid, would carry LNG to the northern districts of the State.
