The Telangana Rashtra Samiti has firmed up its resolve to go it alone in the ensuing elections in 2014.
TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao said the party will not align with any political outfits in the next elections and would contest independently whenever they were held in the region in future. Mr. Rao who inaugurated the party’s two-day brainstorming session here on Wednesday explained the purpose of his recent visit to New Delhi to hold discussions with the Congress leadership.
He is reported to have told the party leaders that the visit came in the light of the Congress’ assurance on thrashing out a solution to the separate Statehood issue, but the ruling party had betrayed the people of the region yet again. He asserted that there would be no more negotiations or discussions with the Congress leadership in future.
Exhorting the party leaders and the cadre to gear up for the elections, he said the Telangana State would become a reality if the party could secure at least 100 Assembly and 15 Lok Sabha seats in the next general elections.
To begin with, the party would observe Deeksha Diwas on November 29, coinciding with his arrest on the same day in 2009 while on his way to launch indefinite fast in Siddipet.
The Diwas would be preceded by a massive public meeting at Suryapet on November 23 where the party would make public the roadmap for future agitations. The party had decided to launch ‘Palle Bus Baata’ from November 30, a 40-day mass contact programme aimed at reaching out people at the grass root level.
Mr. Rao is learnt to have admitted that the differences with the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee were borne out of the stand taken by the JAC in Mahabubnagar that irked the TRS leadership. The party would, however, would strive to remove the minor irritants and join forces with the pro-Telangana organisations to carry forward a united struggle.
The meeting paid tributes to Santosh, who committed suicide on the Osmania University campus for separate Telangana cause.
Earlier, the TRS chief was accorded a warm and rousing reception by the party rank and file and pro-Telangana activists in Karimnagar.
Before attending the party’s brainstorming session, Mr. Rao visited the Telangana martyrs memorial to pay floral tributes to the martyrs of Telangana. Later, he garlanded the statues of Telangana ideologue K Jayashankar and Telangana thalli in Karimnagar amid slogans of “Jai Telangana”.
The police had a tough time in regulating the surging crowds. Telangana Jagruthi president and daughter of Mr. Chandrasekhar, Kavitha attended the session as special invitee.
