After hitting the road on examination to Group I services of the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) and demanding 42 per cent quota in posts of law officers, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) is gearing up to take on the State government in the matter of recruitment of jail warders.
TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday demanded that all the 700 posts of jail warders be filled with candidates from Telangana “to undo the damage to the region in the staff pattern of Jails Department.” There were about 650 candidates readily available to fill the notified posts.
Demands justice
The representation of the region in the department would be only 38 per cent even after all the 700 posts of jail warder were filled with candidates from Telangana, Mr. Rao told a meeting at the TRS office here.
Demanding justice to Telangana, Mr. Rao went on to add that only 544 candidates of the region were appointed so far in the 3,194 executive posts in the Jails Department constituting 17 per cent.
The ministerial staff of Telangana was only 180 out of a total of 1,800 posts.
‘Patience running out'
Mr. Rao warned that the patience of people in the region on being denied their due share of 42 per cent quota in government jobs was running out and said the TRS would take up an intense agitation if the 700 posts of jail warders were not given to them. He sought the intervention of Chief Minister K. Rosaiah to avert the situation.
Mr. Rao reminded Mr. Rosaiah that it was several months since the latter promised to lead an all-party delegation to New Delhi to press for amendment to the Presidential Order to see that Hyderabad was not a free zone. However, this was not followed up.
