Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday directed the Irrigation Department to prepare an action plan to divert water to several reservoirs through Yellampally project by lifts even as the works on the Kaleshwaram project go on.
He reviewed the progress of projects taken up both on the Godavari and Krishna rivers during a meeting held with Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao, Energy Minister G. Jagadish Reddy, MPs, legislators and officials. While reviewing the Kaleshwaram project, the Chief Minister said water should be released to chain-link tanks simultaneously from the major balancing reservoirs planned from Mallanna Sagar to Baswapur.
Mallanna Sagar would be a key component in Kaleshwaram project since it would serve the needs both in north and south Telangana, the Chief Minister said adding that water could be drawn through gravity to any tank from the reservoir.
He directed the officials to pace works in such a way that water could be taken to Mallanna Sagar in two years.
Examining the designs of canals to carry Dindi lift irrigation project water to Chowtuppal in Nalgonda district, the Chief Minister enquired about details on the canal alignment from Dindi to Shivannagudem.
The project should irrigate lands in the fluoride-affected areas of Munugode, Devarakonda, Chowtuppal, Chityal and other areas besides providing potable water. By diverting Krishna water to Chintapalli, Gottimukkla, Singarayapalli and Krishtampalli reservoirs, the Dindi project would drive away drought from Nalgonda district, the Chief Minister said adding that the main canal of the project should take-off from Narlapur.
