Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao is likely to repeat his 2004 experiment of contesting in both Assembly and Parliament elections when he throws his hat in the ring in 2014.

Sources said he might contest from Gajwel for Assembly and Medak for Parliament elections like he did for Siddipet and Karimnagar respectively in 2004.

Ultimately, he gave up the Siddipet Assembly seat and retained Karimnagar to join the Union Cabinet.

This time round, Mr. Rao was said to have chosen Gajwel where he owned a large tract of agricultural land and a farmhouse at Erravalli in Jagdevpur mandal.

He also set his eyes on the Medak Lok Sabha seat which is presently held by Ms. Vijayashanti but she had quit the TRS and joined the Congress, though not officially.

What will be of interest in the event of Ms. Vijayashanti being fielded from the same constituency by the Congress is whether the party candidate on the last occasion C. Narendranath will be fielded by the BJP.

He joined the BJP a few months ago.

Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao was said to be in consultations with the party cadre at his farmhouse for the past three days discussing Medak district-specific political activity ahead of elections.

He indicated his plan to contest from the Gajwel Assembly and Medak Parliamentary seats and deciding on which seat to retain, based on the post-election scenario.

Focus on Medak

Mr. Rao has focussed on Medak because the party won only one out of ten Assembly seats in the district in 2009. He was not unduly worried about TRS chances in Siddipet where its candidate T. Harish Rao won with a handsome majority, but made detailed enquiries about the remaining nine constituencies.

He is likely to remain at the farmhouse till January 3.
