Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday said that Engineering Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMCET) and Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) will be postponed, and will be conducted before May 20.
He asked parents and students not to worry about the exam and continue with their preparation.
“They (private institutions) are trying to hold the government to ransom,” he said, making it clear that the government will not succumb to threats.
While speaking to The Hindu , the Chief Minister expressed surprise that “how can the institutions say there should not be any inspections at all.”
“When there is a Rs. 1,000-crore scam involved, how can the government find out which institutions are bogus and which are genuine unless there is an inquiry?,” he asked.
The Chief Minister said that the exams will be conducted in government institutions only and they will not depend on private institutions.
He condemned the private institutions’ efforts to defame the government and said inspections will continue with the involvement of several government agencies, apart from BITS Pilani, Hyderabad and IIIT.
Earlier, the JAC of private institutions threatened to withdraw their centres from the EAMCET protesting against the proposed Vigilance inspections.
The JAC had said that the police cannot inspect the colleges as they don’t understand the dynamics of academic institutions.
At the same time, they were ready for inspections from the academic bodies.
