Agriculture Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana on Saturday called on Governor E. S. L. Narasimhan fuelling speculation about the purpose of his visit and interaction.

Mr. Lakshminarayana drove to Raj Bhavan and had a 15- minute interaction during which they were said to have discussed the latest political situation in the State in the wake of the Centre’s decision to complete the process of bifurcation. He is believed to have briefed the Governor about his meeting with AICC president Sonia Gandhi last week in New Delhi.

The Agriculture Minister told The Hindu that it was a courtesy call.Mr. Lakshminarayana has been in the news after his meeting with Ms. Gandhi last week. His deliberations with her had triggered speculation that he could be the possible successor to Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy.

“It is unfortunate that an attempt was made last week by a TV channel close to a top Congress leader in the State to malign me,” Mr. Lakhsminarayana told The Hindu .
