The Railway Board has kept the Kakinada-Pithapuram railway line project in a ‘frozen’ state, while the Andhra Pradesh government is making efforts to ensure that the project gets realised, according to South Central Railway General Manager Vinod Kumar Yadav.
After finding that the railway line project was economically not viable, the Railway Board decided to keep it aside, he told the media after inspecting the Kakinada railway station.
However, the project was not shelved, he said.
Referring to the Kotipalli-Narasapuram railway line works, Mr. Yadav said preparatory works were in progress and the project was likely to be completed within three years.

Mr. Yadav said that a facelift would be given to the Rajamahendravaram railway station and the other stations in both East and West Godavari districts by March 2019.
He visited Nidadavolu, Kovvuru and Rajamahendravaram railway stations as part of annual inspections.
Mr. Yadav told the media that ₹30 crore was allocated for development of the Rajamahendravaram railway station.
Work started for two new platforms as part of extension and it would be completed before March 2019. Two escalators were opened on Friday.
He gave an assurance that the railway school in Rajamahendravaram would not be closed.
