This sleepy hamlet in Ardhaveedu mandal will be bustling with religious activity on Friday as seasoned and budding Carnatic musicians will gather to pay musical tribute to saint-composer Kakarla Thyagabrahmam, illustrious son of the soil.
Much to the delight of the musicians, the Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanams has taken the lead for organising the Thyagaraja Sangeeta Mahotsavam at the ancestral village of Thyagabrahmam, the doyen among the Carnatic music trinity, according to TTD liaison officer Venkat Sarma.
The festivities will commence with the ‘unchha vritti’ procession by musicians including students and teachers from the Sri Venkateswara Music and Dance College, Tirupati. Select songs composed by Thyagaraja in praise of Lord Rama will be rendered on the occasion as also the famous Pancharatna Kritis.
Srinivasa Kalyanam
The festivities will conclude with a grand Srinivasa Kalyanam. The TTD would construct a grand temple of Sri Thyagaraja at Kakarla, Mr Sarma said.
A five-acre plot has been acquired for the purpose to perpetuate the memory of Thyagaraja who composed 24,000 kritis akin to 24,000 verses by hunter-turned saint Valmiki.
