District Collector promises to convene a meeting within a couple of days

Journalists and photographers staged dharna in front of Kadapa Collectorate under the aegis of Kadapa District Journalists Association on Monday alleging injustice in grant of accreditations to those working in the print and electronic media in Kadapa district.

As the media was rapidly expanding and the number of journalists and lensmen was growing accordingly, the District Accreditation Committee members should liberally grant accreditation facility to mediapersons without discriminating between the big and small publications and news channels, association’s district president C. Suribabu said.

Several eligible journalists and photographers were deprived of the facility in the first phase, causing agony to them, Mr. Suribabu alleged. Scribes would lose benefits if they were not granted accreditations in the second phase, he added.

The committee meeting should be convened expeditiously and accreditations granted liberally to all those eligible, as given in Anantapur district, association general secretary M. Sreenivasulu demanded. Union affiliations should not be a hindrance to grant of accreditations, he added.

The District Collector K. Sasidhar received a memorandum from the protesters and promised to convene a meeting within a couple of days and grant the facility to all those eligible.

Union leaders Rajasekhar, Basheer Khan, Sankaraiah, Prasanna Kumar Reddy, Vanam Sarma, Chandrasekhar, Abhinay and Shafi Ahmed participated.
