Lok Satta Party president Jayaprakash Narayan on Thursday said that he had voluntarily supported the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as he felt that its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi could ensure a clean administration and curb corruption at all levels.
Speaking to the media here, he strongly defended his support to the saffron party and pulling out of the candidates from all MP seats except Malkajgiri constituency from where he was contesting the lections. He said that the BJP’s electoral victory at the Centre was the need of the hour.
However, he evaded a direct answer whether or not his support to the BJP would be detrimental to the prospects of the Lok Satta Assembly candidates.
Mr. Jayaprakash also took part in road shows at Arasavilli, Srikurmam and other areas, drumming up support for the party’s Srikakulam Assembly candidate Panchadi Rambabu. He claimed that several important Acts had come into force only with the initiatives of the Lok Satta. “Every candidate is now filing affidavits about their criminal record and it was the outcome of the Lok Satta’s relentless fight for the electoral reforms,” he said.
