The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu has said that if his party came to power, the government would provide jobs to the kin of those who died for the sake of separate Telangana.

Addressing an impressive gathering at the regional meeting here on Sunday, Mr Naidu in an oblique reference to the TRS said there were some parties which say something and do something else.

The TDP leader said that the TRS did not do anything for the people but instead exploited them a lot. Earlier, Mr Naidu paid floral tributes at the Telangana Martyrs’ memorial, a model set up on the dais.

He said the TRS had turned into a collection party and its leaders engaged in illegal activities. “Had the TDP not tied up with the TRS in last elections, the TDP would have come to power. They sold away tickets,” Mr Chandrababu Naidu said.

The TDP contemplated to constitute village and mandal level committees to ensure victory to the party in local body elections.

“These sarpanch elections are crucial for us. Tell people the TDP government gave honorarium to sarpanches and how it devolved funds and responsibilities.

We strengthened the local bodies but the Congress never conducted elections as scheduled,” Mr Naidu explained. Earlier, leaders Satyavathi Rathod, Ramesh Rathod and L Ramana addressed the party workers.

Warangal district TDP president A Baswa Reddy welcomed the gathering.
