The jobs for Srisailam Project oustees triggered a major row between the beneficiaries of Kurnool and Mahabubnagar districts here on Monday.
The beneficiaries from Kurnool district stormed into the office of the Superintending Engineer and locked it up, demanding withdrawal of non-local candidates. On the other hand, candidates from Mahabubnagar approached the authorities to give them employment as per the letters given to them by the government.
It may be recalled that the families displaced by the Srisailam project have been fighting for compensation in the form of jobs for the last 30 years. In 1986, the government brought out GO 98, promising jobs to displaced families. But it was never implemented until the last week when Chief Minister N. Kirankumar Reddy distributed job letters to 513 persons at a function at Nandikotkur.
The Chief Minister handed over the employment letters to 128 beneficiaries at Garlapadu village in Mahabubnagar. The selected candidates were asked to report for duty in Kurnool under GO 610. As per the GO, non-locals were given 20 per cent jobs.
During the survey, 952 eligible candidates were identified in Kurnool district and 797 of them gave their consent to join the government service. In the first phase, 513 were given letters as luskars. The government gave employment to 128 from Mahabubnagar to fill 20 per cent of the posts.
SE Sudhakar tried to pacify both the groups.
