Ravuri Bharadhwaja, literary luminary and Jnanpith awardee, breathed his last at Care hospital here on Friday evening.
He is survived by four sons and a daughter. He was recently honoured by the Indian Society for Cultural Cooperation and Friendship in Visakhapatnam.
Dr. Bharadhwaja was admitted on October 14 for some cardiac problems, hypertension and severe urinary infection. “He was on dialysis and renal failure compounded his condition by causing multi-organ failure,” Dr Gopi Krishna, Deputy Medical Superintendent, said.
The popular writer is credited with penning 37 collections of short stories, 17 novels, four play-lets, and five radio plays. Although, Bharadwaja studied up to seventh class, he contributed profusely to children’s literature.
