The first ever Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main held on Sunday did not give many goosebumps to the aspirants with the questions given being relatively easy.
In the State it was held in Warangal, Khammam, Guntur and Tirupati without any problems despite students having to choose just these four centres from across the State.
The three-hour paper held in the offline mode had 90 questions for 360 marks. The paper was divided into three parts - Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Each subject carried 30 questions and all questions were objective in nature with four choices. Each question carried four marks for the correct response and a negative mark for every wrong answer. Attempting all questions was not compulsory.
Ajay Antony, Vice-President, TIME Institute said that there were ‘Assertion Reasoning’ type of questions in physics and mathematics. The initial response from students was that the physics paper was tougher than mathematics and chemistry. The test booklet was given back to the students at the end of the examination. The online mode will be held from April 8 to 25 in 29 cities in the country.
Results will be declared on May 7 and among the successful candidates the top 1.5 lakh candidates will be allowed to appear for the JEE Advanced, the eligibility test for entry into IITs. Since the paper was relatively easy, the cut-off mark is likely to be high.
Warangal plays perfect host
Warangal Special Correspondent adds: The JEE examination was held without any untoward incident while the district police deserved all the credit for their excellent work.
Superintendent of Police (Urban) A. Venkateswar Rao came forward and motivated the individuals and non-government organisations. Following his appeal, scores of people and organisations came forward showing generosity to play host to over 40,000 students and an equal number of parents and relatives who arrived here since Saturday night for the examination on Sunday.
About 42,000 students appeared for the test at 61 centres spread in Warangal, Hanamkonda and Kazipet towns here on Sunday.
The police department and Lions Club made elaborate arrangements to ensure free accommodation and provide other help to the students.
The Lions Club, Students Islamic Organisation, Congress leader N. Rajender Reddy, TRS students’ wing and several others pitched in to do their bit to the students and parents.
Students and parents who visited Warangal town last year had a very bad experience with all hotels and every shelter being booked. They had difficulty in reaching their examination centres too.
But this year, the police and civil society came out with a route map and set up scores of help centres at all important places in Kazipet, Hanamkonda and Warangal towns.
SP Venkateswar Rao visited several camps where parents were resting. They all thanked the police officers and the people of the district for helping them.
All school buildings, function halls, private buildings and hostels were spared for free to the thousands of students and parents who poured in since Saturday night into the tri-cities.
The police had difficult times regulating the traffic as endless stream of vehicles made a beeline to the district headquarters from all sides and more from the State capital. The flyover bridge at Kazipet witnesses congestion for a while. However, the police prevailed over and effectively diverted the traffic.
SP Venkateswar Rao thanked all individuals, NGOs and police personnel for their work.
Tirupati Staff Reporter adds: The JEE conducted in 34 centres in Tirupati passed off peacefully on Sunday.
Of the 18,763 candidates enrolled, around 92 per cent took the test, while the rest abstained due to various reasons. The test was held in two sessions at 30 test centres in the city, three in A.Rangampet and one in Renigunta, city co-ordinator Rohit Panda said.
All eligible candidates reaching the centres were allowed in without any fuss. The AP Southern Power Distribution Company Limited ensured uninterrupted power throughout the day, while APSRTC ran extra buses with the stickers ‘JEE special’ for the benefit of students visiting the city from far-off places to take the test. As a relief from the scorching heat and sun-baked roads, the parents got a semblance of respite with some ‘choultries’ offering free accommodation for them to stay.
The police department deployed adequate men at the centres to ensure order and eliminate hassles as well. Parking lots were allocated near the centres to accommodate the visiting vehicles and also to avoid spillover of crowd on to the roads.
