The conviction of Rashtriya Janata Dal president and former Bihar Chief Minister and others by a CBI Court gave some hope that the corrupt would be punished at last, said Lok Satta Party national president Jayaprakash Narayan here on Monday.
In a statement, he said it took 20 years to finish the trial and appeals might take decades. If 10 top politicians and officials are convicted in every State and their properties confiscated, corruption could be reduced in society, he said.
Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan said the Lalu Prasad case had exposed the political crisis in India.
A product of the anti-corruption struggle and emergency, Mr. Lalu Prasad was the favourite leader of the media and masses in the 1990s. Yet, he became a part of what was wrong and a cynical practitioner of power politics- caste mobilisation, sectarianism, corruption, polarisation, short-term populism and criminalisation, Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan said.
