February 15, 2015 03:50 pm | Updated May 26, 2016 07:08 am IST - HYDERABAD:

YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jaganmohan Redddy has requested the Centre to honor all the assurances given to the people of residuary State of Andhra Pradesh at the time of division of the combined A.P.

Accompanied by a team of YSR Congress MPs including P. Mithun Reddy, Y.V. Subba Reddy and others, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy called on Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi on Sunday and submitted a memorandum on the promises made to A.P. in the bifurcation act. He also brought the situation of conflict that prevailed at Nagarjunasagar Project site a couple of days ago between the police and officials of A.P. and Telangana over sharing of water in the project.

Speaking to mediapersons after meeting Mr. Rajnath Singh, the YSR Congress president said that the people of A.P. were unfortunate to have a “thick-skinned” Chief Minister in N. Chandrababu Naidu, who was not moved with the plight of farmers in the Capital Region Development Authority area in his eagerness to benefit his political associates by helping them make real estate business there and make easy money.

As an Opposition party the YSR Congress could also request those in power to resolve the problems of A.P’s people and it was the third time in eight months he was meeting the Central Government functionaries, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy said. He alleged that it was the Congress, BJP and TDP who divided the State together without even looking into the possible problems of the residuary State, he alleged.

In the six-page memorandum to the Union Home Minister, the YSR Congress chief reminded the former of all promises made to A.P. in the reorganization act and requested him to fulfill them. He raised the issues of special package to A.P. including tax incentives for spurring industrial development in first five years, helping the State overcome huge financial deficit, development of backward areas, financing construction of new capital city to the State, setting up new railway zone implementing pending railway projects and others.

Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy will meet Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely in the evening and has sought an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
