The empowered committee on Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) has recommended clearance of 202 road works in the State but has asked the government to have a re-look at the unit cost.
Informing this to Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy in a letter, Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh said the clearance was recommended for the works in the districts of Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Warangal and Adilabad with a total length of about 793 km. The value indicated by the State government was Rs.507 crore but the empowered committee asked for a re-look of the unit cost, a process that was expected to be completed by end of next week.
Mr. Ramesh said, “That is why, while the number of road works and the length are final, the cost can only be considered tentative at this stage and will definitely be lower than what is indicated.”
Of the 202 works, 136 are in Visakhapatnam, 57 in Adilabad, five in Warangal and four in Vizianagaram. Of the 793-km road length, about 626 km is in Visakhapatnam, 131.8 km in Adilabad, 23 km in Vizianagaram and 12 km in Warangal district.
Mentioning that the proposals in Visakahpatnam district were entirely in the Paderu Integrated Tribal Development Authority area, particularly in the interior areas, he said, “I am a little surprised that it has taken so long even to receive and consider such proposals from the Paderu ITDA.”
