Breaking his silence on the Telangana issue, Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy today said he stands for a united Andhra Pradesh and alleged that TDP and its chief N Chandrababu Naidu were responsible for the current situation in the state.
Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy, the son of late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, also clarified that he was forced to exhibit his support for a united state in Lok Sabha today as he did not want “TDP alone to take the credit for supporting a unified Andhra.”
“I want to be with the people of Andhra Pradesh. We stand for a united Andhra Pradesh. Together as one family, we stand to develop Telangana as golden Telangana,” the 37-year-old MP from Kadapa told reporters outside Parliament. “We stand for brotherhood. We need a united Andhra Pradesh,” he said.
Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy accused TDP and Chandrababu Naidu of being the “culprits” for the current situation in the state.
“TDP and Chandrababu Naidu are the culprits for all what is happening now. Had Chandrababu Naidu not said that he would support the resolution for bifurcation of the State the situation would not have risen to this level,” he said.
Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy said when TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao was on fast, an all-party meeting was called for in which both Chandrababu Naidu and PRP chief Chiranjeevi said they would support the resolution favouring formation of separate Telangana state.
“Only we (Congress) stand for brotherhood. They (Naidu and Chiranjeevi) said they would support the resolution. They wanted to break the state,” he said.
Detailing on what happened in Parliament earlier today, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy said: “(I was) standing along with the MPs and there was so much of confusion. Andhra MPs were shouting slogans for a unified state and Telangana MPs were shouting for a separate state. I was standing there and there was no other way to exhibit (my views).”
“The TDP is not the champion for united Andhra. We stand for brotherhood,” he said when asked why he was seen shouting slogans along with TDP MLAs.
Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy along with some other party members joined a TDP protest against the decision to carve out a separate state from Andhra Pradesh in Lok Sabha and borrowed a placard from them as they shouted slogans in support of a united Andhra Pradesh.
