The Praja Sankalpa Yatra (Padayatra) of YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy reached yet another milestone in Krishna district on Wednesday.

Mr. Jagan completed 1,800 km at Ganapavaram village in the Mylavaram Assembly constituency. Party supporters in the village were elated. The followers of political leaders have been building pylons to mark different points in the padayatra, but Mr. Jagan has changed the trend by planting saplings every 100 km. Barring Idupulapaya, where he began the padayatra on November 6, Mr. Jagan has planted 17 saplings till now.

He obliged the people of Ganapavaram when they requested him to plant saplings of two trees – neem and peepal-- that are considered sacred.

Pace comes down

Neem and peepal trees are said to occur naturally in places where “divine vibrations are concentrated,” according to scholars. Temples are also constructed in such place. Mr. Jagan planted two saplings in Kurnool district, three each in Anantapur, Nellore, Prakasam and Guntur districts. He has planted various trees, but people preferred peepal, party men said. He took an average eight days to cover 100 km in Kurnool, Anantapur, Chittoor and Prakasam, but with the mercury shooting up, the pace has come down in Guntur and Krishna.
