YSR Congress president Jaganmohan Reddy on Thursday urged Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan to convene a special session of the Assembly before the draft Bill on bifurcation of the State comes before the House in order to take up a resolution for keeping the State united.
Mr. Jagan led a delegation of party leaders to the Raj Bhavan and submitted a representation to the Governor to this effect, the second one in the last fortnight.
He wanted tabling of the resolution against the division of the State in the larger interest of the people and in order to safeguard the prospects of future generations.
Later, addressing a press conference, Mr. Jagan accused Congress president Sonia Gandhi of playing with the lives of people and future generations in order to make Rahul Gandhi Prime Minister. While Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy was implementing Ms. Gandhi’s plan in toto, Telugu Desam chief N. Chandrababu Naidu was supporting it.
Appealing to the Chief Minister and Mr. Chandrababu Naidu to keep aside politics and open their eyes at least now, he said the entire Seemandhra region from Kuppam to Srikalulam would turn into a desert if bifurcation was not stopped. He urged them not to become “villains of history.”
Accusing the Chief Minister of diluting the movement for keeping the State united, Mr. Jagan announced that YSR Congress activists would stage a dharna in front of the former’s residence on Friday.
He said police had given permission for holding the party’s ‘Samaikya Sankharavam’ here on October 26. His concept of ‘Samaikyam’ included all the three regions --Telangana, Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema -- and rendering justice to each region.
Mr. Jagan said YSR Congress MP M. Rajamohan Reddy would meet Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and hand over a letter from him (Mr. Jagan) urging her to accept his resignation. Both the MPs have already submitted their resignations protesting against the Centre’s decision to divide the State.
