Arguments on charges in one of quid pro quo cases to begin on July 21

Arguments on charges, a judicial process before the framing of charges against the accused, in the pharmaceutical companies’ aspect of the quid pro quo investments cases will be taken up from July 21.

The decision was taken by the Principal Special Court for CBI Cases here on Monday after hearing the defence and prosecution on the issue.

The defence counsels argued in favour of clubbing of all aspects of the case for the purpose of hearing on charges and taking up the process at once, but the prosecution opposed it and reasoned for taking up the aspects separately.

The aspect of pharmaceutical companies was the first charge-sheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 2012 against Aurobindo and Hetero.

Most of the accused in the ten aspects of the quid pro quo cases, including the first accused Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, YSR Congress Party president, Managing Director of India Cements Ltd N. Srinivasan, former Ministers J. Geetha Reddy, Dharmana Prasada Rao, P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, Mopidevi Venkata Ramana, auditor of Jaganmohan Reddy’s firms V. Vijay Sai Reddy, representatives of several companies named in the cases, and several IAS officers were present in the court to mark their presence.

Judge N. Balayogi adjourned the hearing to July 21with a direction both to the prosecution and the defence to commence arguments on charges against the accused in the first charge-sheet of the quid pro quo cases.

Meanwhile, accused in the illegal mining case against Obulapuram Mining Company – B.V. Srinivas Reddy, Gali Janardhan Reddy and K. Mehfuz Ali Khan were produced through video linkage.

Remand extended

The judge extended the remand of the three accused in judicial custody and posted the case to July 21 for the next hearing.

Former IAS officer B. Krupanandam, former Director of Mines & Geology V.D. Rajagopal appeared before the court in the case.

Those who were absent from appearance in the court citing different reasons included industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad and suspended IAS officer Y. Srilakshmi.
