Rejecting appeals to call off his fast, an adamant YSR Congress Party president, Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy continued his protest for the sixth day on Friday in the Osmania General Hospital, even as his health deteriorated, posing a risk to the functioning of his kidneys.
Mr. Reddy launched an indefinite fast from Sunday morning after his mother Y.S.Vijayamma was forcibly shifted to a hospital on the fifth day of her hunger strike in Guntur recently. Both of them have been demanding the Centre to maintain status quo if it was not in a position to render justice to all the regions while bifurcating the State.
A spokesman of Osmania General Hospital said that the YSR Congress leader refused to take glucose or IV fluids in spite of repeated pleas by the doctors. His condition was being closely monitored as glucose levels went down, while ketone bodies shot up. His blood pressure was under control even as he was reportedly feeling weak.
Meanwhile, the Political Affairs Committee of YSR Party met here and urged Ms. Vijayamma to appeal to Mr. Reddy to call off his hunger strike keeping the larger interest of the people, who need his leadership.
YSR Congress leader, Konathala Ramakrishna hit out at the jail authorities for not informing Mr. Reddy’s family members when he was shifted to the hospital around midnight.
The CBI court reserved its orders to Saturday on a plea by Y.S. Bharathi, wife of Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, to allow her as an attendant in the hospital to take care of her husband.
