The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday informed the Andhra Pradesh High Court that YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, now lodged in Chanchalguda jail, was arrested in a particular case of Vanpic deal alone and not yet in other issues.
The investigating agency was dropping a hint about the likelihood of arresting the MP in the name of investigation into other seven issues, according to legal experts.
The CBI gave this indication when the court summoned the police custody report as well as the remand report relating to the arrest of Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy.
The arguments in the bail petition filed by Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy before Justice B. Seshasayana Reddy thus took a curious turn as the CBI’s submission will have far reaching consequences in the issue of arrest and bail for the Kadapa MP.
It may be recalled that the YSR Congress president was taken into custody on May 27 this year, just prior to the bye elections. After the Supreme Court rejected his bail application, Mr. Jaganmohan approached the CBI special court here and now his application is in the High Court. Additional Solicitor General from Delhi Harin Rawal argued the case before Justice Reddy on Wednesday. He said that the issue of statutory bail (accused being eligible for bail after 90 days of his arrest if the charge sheet is not filed) was argued at length at Supreme Court and the accused now cannot raise this issue once again now. The counsel for the petitioner contested this claim.

The CBI claimed that the arrest was in Vanpic case alone and not in seven other issues and there is no question of bail in those issues. The judge said that order will be delivered on Thursday.
