Its a long wait for loans in Prakasam

February 27, 2015 03:36 pm | Updated 03:36 pm IST - ONGOLE:

Uncertainty looms large for over 11,500 beneficiaries who were identified by Prakasam District administration for providing much needed financial support to the tune of Rs. 217.75 crore with the bankers not completing the loan sanctioning process defeating the very purpose for which the schemes were evolved.

After running from pillar to post, the beneficiaries got sanctioned loans to the tune of Rs 217.75 crore from the SC, ST, BC and Minorities Corporations during this fiscal. The beneficiaries are now a worried lot as bankers, busy with the loan waiver for farmers, have so far opened loan and savings bank accounts for hardly 400 beneficiaries even as end of 2014-15 fiscal year is fast approaching

Taking a serious note of the slow progress in opening of accounts, Prakasam district in-charge Collector M.Hari Jawaharlal exhorted the bankers to complete the process early so that the beneficiaries could get online credit of subsidy component into their bank accounts without hassles.

He also wanted the bankers to eliminate middlemen and ensure proper utilisation of the subsidy component by the beneficiaries.

As many as 6,913 members from the Backward Classess were awaiting release of loans to the tune of Rs. 106.68 crore, followed by 2721 SC beneficiaries(Rs. 34.61 crore), 1091 ST beneficiaries(Rs. 70.03 crore), 275 minority beneficiaries(Rs.2.75 crore), SC Corporation Executive Director B.Ravi told The Hindu on Friday.

There were also 618 beneficaires from different communities selected for loans to the tune of Rs 3.68 crore by the Animal Husbandry Department for creation of income generation assets, Mr.Ravi said, adding ''efforts are being doubled to complete the process well before the close of the fiscal''.
