The TRS leadership is in an upbeat mood thinking that it would be a cakewalk for them in Warangal Parliamentary seat. But the reality may not be so.
The TRS is harping on the Telangana sentiment telling people that it was responsible for formation of the new State while the Congress is claiming that it was actually responsible for the creation of separate Telangana.
Though the TDP-BJP combine and others might be in the fray, the main contest would be between the TRS and Congress. The TDP too has considerable committed voters as it secured over one lakh votes in the last election. Due to strong organisational network, the TDP would still manage to get sizable number of votes which would tilt the prospects in favour or against the TRS and Congress.
Of the seven Assembly constituencies in this Parliamentary segment – three are held by TRS – Station Ghanpur, Parkal and Warangal West. Of them two were wrested from the Congress in the by-elections; three held by Congress – Warangal East, Wardhannapet and Bhupalpally while the TDP held Palakurthy Assembly seat.
The success in Lok Sabha elections depends on the success of the parties in Assembly segments. Of the seven, the Congress seems to be a little stronger in Bhupalpally and other constituencies and the outcome will depend on the candidates contesting. Since the two constituencies went the TRS way, one cannot assume that the party is strong since the by-election is different from the general elections. TRS candidate Kadiam Srihari has good name as a mass leader and is considered to be a good candidate. Being in TDP and being a Minister for nine long years, he developed his own cadre in many constituencies. He is banking upon his work as Minister.
Meanwhile, the Congress candidate, Sircilla Rajaiah, is considered to be very amiable and accessible. Moreover, people are not as averse to the Congress as being claimed by rival political parties.
