Irrigation staff restive over move to shift

May 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The employees of various circles of Andhra Pradesh Irrigation department turned restive with an internal circular issued by the Engineer-in-Chief (Administration) that the employees should be prepared to shift to Vijayawada as instructed by Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao.

Agitated over the circular, about 560 employees working in the offices of Heads of Department, Irrigation questioned the decision to shift the employees without providing basic infrastructure facilities in Vijayawada.

The employees’ unions of Irrigation department are reportedly planning to stage a lunch hour demonstration at Jala Soudha here on Wednesday against the move to shift employees.

Meanwhile, senior department officials said no time frame has been set so far for shifting the employees of HoDs to Vijayawada. In the wake of Irrigation Minister’s directive that the field level staff of the department should shift to Vijayawada at the earliest, the department was only collecting details about the accommodation facilities, financial implications involved in shifting the staff and other logistics.

“ So far no orders have been issued about shifting the staff to Vijayawada,” they said.
