The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probe into the lottery scam has taken its first toll with the suspension of Inspector-General of Police Alok Kumar, a 1994 batch IPS officer posted as Additional Commissioner of Police (West) in the city.

Confirming the development, Karnataka Chief Secretary Kaushik Mukherjee said the suspension came after a recommendation by the Director-General and Inspector-General of Police (DG&IGP), Om Prakash, based on the interim report of the CID. The report submitted on Thursday, prima facie provided evidence to show that Mr. Alok Kumar was in constant touch with the kingpin Pari Rajan and called a sub-inspector twice in an attempt to prevent Pari Rajan’s arrest. It also presented evidence to indicate a close relationship between Mr. Alok Kumar and Pari Rajan, sources confirmed. The CID is now expected to serve him notice to appear before its investigation officer for questioning in the case by Monday.
