Inter-State gang members held, jewellery seized

The police on Monday nabbed two members of an inter-State gang and recovered 256 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs. 6.4 lakh on Monday. In another case, they recovered gold jewellery weighing 45.580 grams from three persons in the city.

The modus operandi of the two gangs was similar, as they used to target women walking alone on the roads and stop them by introducing themselves as police officials in plain clothes.

Additional Superintendent of Police A.R. Damodar, said the accused were identified as Shiraj Ali Marang Jafri (40) of Thane district in Maharashtra and Syed Nasser Ali (42) of Vayalpadu in Chittoor district.

They were accused of committing seven offences in Kakinada in the last six months.

The police produced the accused in court. Mr. Damodar said three others -- Panthadi Satish (25) of Etimoga, Gedela Umamaheswara Rao (24) and Gedala Krishnasai (19) of Jagannadhapuram in the city – were accused of committing three offences.
